Use this 3 Treasures Qigong Meditation Practice to relieve stress, increase energy, promote healing, and support mental health.
You’ll notice a significant shift in as little as 3 minutes a day!
What’s qigong? Qigong is basically Chinese yoga.
The word qigong can be translated “life-force cultivation” or “vital energy work”.
Just like yoga, it’s a mind-body-spirit practice that uses coordinated postures, meditation, and breathwork to move vital energy in the body and promote healing.
The 3 Treasures Qigong Meditation Practice I’m teaching here seems really subtle and even silly at first, but its power should not be underestimated.
Because in as little as 3 minutes a day for 30 days you can totally transform your vitality.
Here’s how it works:
In Chinese medicine there are what we call the 3 burners: lower, middle, upper.
Lower burner is associated with the kidneys, and is said to house Jing, or vital essence, which is like the energy powerhouse of your body.
When you don’t have enough Jing, you feel lethargic, stuck, have low libido and low energy overall.
If you deal with depression it’s a sign you need to build up more Jing.
Frequent overwhelm and anxiety are signs that you still have a bit of Jing energy in your system, but it’s running pretty low.
Basically anytime you feel tired, it’s a sign that you could use some more Jing.
Even if you feel pretty stable and energized most of the time, this practice can still do wonders for you.
Because life is inherently stressful.
And if you don’t take time to rest and focus on giving yourself what you need, you’re going to end up feeling depleted eventually.
So the 3 Treasures Qigong Meditation starts by infusing the lower burner with energy.
The lower burner (also called the “lower dantian”) is just behind the belly button in people with female anatomy, and just a bit lower on the abdomen in people born with male anatomy.
But the exact location isn’t all that important.
If you put your hands around the lower part of your belly button you’re good to go.
Where attention goes, energy flows.
So when you focus your attention here into the lower burner, you’re building up the Jing energy reserve that’s stored there.
This is like you’re charging your body’s battery, refurbishing your lust for life.
We start the 3 Treasures Qigong Meditation practice in the lower burner because Jing energy is the foundation for all life force energy.
You might have a blockage or depletion in another part of your body (most people do!) but if you don’t build up your Jing first, you won’t have enough power to work through those other areas.
So it’s only after you’ve gathered some energy in the lower burner that you can move on to the middle.
The middle burner is associated with the Spleen and Liver in Chinese medicine, which is basically talking about your digestive organs.
But this area of your body is responsible not just for transforming and transporting food and drink.
It’s also about how well you’re able to digest life.
How well are you able to take in experiences and transform them into something that can nourish you?
Any blockage in this area, physical or emotional, will be helped with the 3 Treasures Qigong Meditation practice.
Here are physical signs that your middle burner could use some help:
- Gas
- Bloating
- Loose stools
- Constipation
- Stomach tension or discomfort
- Pain when you press just below the ribs
- Nausea
- Acid reflux
- Gallstones
- Low appetite
- Insatiable appetite
And there are emotional symptoms of middle burner stagnation too.
- Worry
- Irritability
- Explosive anger
- Frustration
- Mood swings
- Guilt
- Foggy brain feeling
- Insecurity
- Exaggerated pride or confidence
- Inability to see past Ego
If you experience any of these symptoms, spend a little extra time on the middle burner during your 3 Treasures Qigong Meditation practice.
Then move on the the upper burner.
The upper burner is associated with the Heart, which is said to house your consciousness, sense of self and connection to others.
It is where compassion and love flow, both toward yourself and others.
Signs of upper burner stagnation can include:
- Anxiety
- Heart palpitations
- Breathing difficulty
- Chest pain
- Insomnia
- Lack of self-awareness
- Weak boundaries
- Getting sick all the time
- Hatred
- Promiscuity
Most of us hold physical stress and energetic blockages in all three of these areas, lower, middle, and upper.
And the 3 treasures qigong meditation practice is a really effective way to clear these blockages.
So how do you do it?
It’s super simple.
- You can stand with your feet hip-distance apart and knees bent, or sit. Either way you want to make sure your back is straight.
- Rub your hands together vigorously until you start to feel some heat.
- Place your hands at the lower rim of your belly button. Traditionally, people who are born female want to use the right hand under the left, and for people who are born male the left hand goes under the right.
- After a few moments or minutes, ideally after you’ve noticed a sigh and a swallow, rub your hands together again and place them over the space between your lower ribs and belly button (your middle burner).
- Finally, repeat the process over your sternum (the breastbone, the area that corresponds with your heart chakra. This is your upper burner.)
- Close your practice by rubbing your hands together vigorously one last time and “breathing in and swallowing the qi” from your hands. Again, this is traditionally the right hand for people who are born female, and left hand for people who are born male. Then cover your eyes with your palms.
- Guide the energy down the center-line of your body with your hands, and place your hands over your lower belly once again for a few more breaths.
But while this practice is incredibly powerful, don’t expect immediate results.
The 3 Treasures Qigong Meditation practice is one that builds on itself.
The more you put into it the more you’re going to get out of it.
And in the beginning it’s very likely that you won’t feel anything at all.
You’ll probably get bored and your mind will throw all sorts of excuses at you to distract you from following through.
But I promise, if you commit to doing this practice for even just 3 minutes for 30 days, you’ll notice changes starting to happen in your body, mind, and spirit.
Here are some signs that it’s starting to work:
- Sighing
- Emotional release/crying
- Shaking/twitching
- Stomach gurgling
- Gagging
- Coughing
- Increased salivation/swallowing
- Change in temperature
- Tingling sensations
- Spontaneous movement
- Spontaneous vocalization
- Tension release/feeling of opening or expansion
- Changes to digestion
But even if you don’t notice any of these changes happening the first 10+ times you do this practice, that’s okay too.
Keep going.
After all, you don’t expect to have a 6 pack after going to the gym for a couple of weeks!
Same thing applies to healing.
Unless you’ve already done some of this kind of inner energy work in the past, it takes some time for the effect to be noticeable.
Just keep showing up for yourself.
Challenge yourself to do the 3 Treasures Qigong Meditation practice for 30 days and see what happens.
The video is a little over 12 minutes long, but you can reduce the practice to less than 3 minutes if that’s all you have time for (a few breaths over each burner).
Remember, a doing a little bit consistently is always more powerful than doing a big practice but only every once in a while.
